The Dell Scholars program, an initiative of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, recognizes students who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their educations. These scholars serve as positive role models and change the trajectories for their siblings, friends and their communities. The foundation awards 300 scholarships annually. The Dell Scholars Program places greater emphasis on a student’s determination to succeed than just academic record and test scores. Hello, hello, hello, It's that time again. It's the Gates Millennium Scholars Program time. For the high school class of 2013, the GMS 2013 Scholarship Application online process opened on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. The deadline for all submission is Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. EST. This year, the application process is completely online. GMS will again select 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The Tuscaloosa Character Council's Annual Scholarship Program In 2007, the Tuscaloosa Character Council established the first Character First Scholarship Contest which targets the Character First Program’s 49 character qualities for success.  For reference, the official website at www.characterfirst.com lists these character qualities. Kids Chance Scholarship - Sponisored by the Alabama State Bar Association is available for students who have had a parent killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2012. Scholarships are announced once a year, and students may apply every year they attend classes. Scholarships range from $500 to $2500. Kids’ Chance has awarded more than 100 scholarships totaling over $375,000 to students studying in colleges and technical schools. Awards are based on the quality of the student's work, as evaluated by the UA full-time faculty panel.
